Today, April 7, the Contemporary Science Film Festival (FANK), with which the Sobranie Fund and Magnezit Group have been cooperating through all the years of this project, turns 10 years old.

FANK is the world’s largest science film festival and the most large-scale documentary film festival in Russia. This is an educational project designed to speak about science and technology through art. Its events have film makers, scientists, researchers, science promoters and artists come together to re-imagine their knowledge of the world and to speak about scientific ideas in an accessible form. 

Back in 2014, Magnezit Group and Sobranie Fund first became the partners to the 360° International Festival of Contemporary Science Films, and from 2015 they’ve supported and implemented the most interesting FANK projects in Satka. In 2018 - 2019, FANK events were held as part of the Interregional Festival of Education and Science, while starting from 2021 Science Film Days and other FANK events have been taking place annually in the public creative space Art-Satka and on other platforms in the town. For example, there was a film day held in February earlier this year and dedicated to the Russian Science Day.

‘We, the FANK team, are exploring the world and sharing our discoveries using various means: cinema, theater, lectures, shows, interacting master-classes, open discussions and many other things. We take interest in all kinds of different topics and disciplines: from the outer space and quantum world to the human body and relationships between people. We believe that anyone can explore the world, regardless of their age and education level. Since 2015, we have shown 151 films in 228 Russian cities and welcomed over 400,000 viewers. We expect your greetings and are eager to see you at our screening events!’ This was written on the festival’s social media pages as an invitation to the 5th Contemporary Science Film Festival (FANK) featuring 10 films to be shown to mark the tenth anniversary of the event.

FANK has shown 151 films over the 10 years of its existence. Film screening events were held in 228 cities, 115 villages and 32 settlements. Over 420,000 spectators attended over 13,000 screening events.
