A cycle of lectures on Russian art is launching on February 7, with the support from Sobranie Fund. The lecture course includes material from two popular video lecture halls of the Tretyakov Gallery – The Great Masters of Russian Art and A Millennium of Russian Painting.
Each lecture will have two parts, complementary to each other: a brief (~30 minutes) but impressive and succinct film made by the staff of the Tretyakov Gallery, and a discussion of the topic with the art historian Natalia Vodoleyeva, with the addition of demonstration material.
Some of the lectures dedicated to the great painters of XVIII - ХХ centuries will cover the biographies and creative methods of prominent painters who affected the development of art in Russia and globally. 8 lectures – 8 famous names: Fyodor Rokotov, Aleksandr Ivanov, Vasiliy Perov, Nikolai Ge, Viktor Borisov-Musatov, Natalia Goncharova, Kazimir Malevich, Anna Golubkina. Each such meeting will also have an interactive session helping more detailed studying of the great artists’ work, their messaging and emotional perception.
Please note that the lectures about painters will take place twice a month: there will be Friday events for students and Sunday events for the general public. The first lectures will take place as soon as this week: on February 7, at 12:00, and on February 9 at 11:00. Subsequent scheduled dates: March 7 and March 9; April 4 and April 6; May 16 and May 18; June 6 and June 8; September 5 and September 7; October 10 and October 12, and November 7 and November 9.
The second part of the lectures will be an exciting journey through the one-thousand-year history of Russian art. Anyone taking this path along with the experts from the Tretyakov Gallery will discover a plethora of new and interesting facts. The cycle offers seven lectures that will help the “travelers” to get to immerse themselves into a particular era in the history of Russian art – from the Middle Ages to our time.
