  • “Imaginary Museum of Mikhail Shemyakin. Hand in Art”

07.10–07.10

On October 7, the Center of Mikhail Shemyakin, in cooperation with Magnezit Group, will hold a press conference devoted to the “Hand in Art” competition in the framework of the “Imaginary Museum of Mikhail Shemyakin” project.

On November 27, 2024, the “Imaginary Museum of Mikhail Shemyakin. Hand in Art” exhibition project will open in Satka. The exhibition project will present the materials of the research done by Mikhail Shemyakin as well as works created by the artists of today: from miniatures to vast installations made in different art forms, including performances, digital and video art.

Just when humans started creating images, they first depicted their own hands as a symbol of participation, as a signature, as a trace. A hand as a sign is used in different religions: Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, even Santeria. The hand was the basis for the early systems of training in music and arithmetics, for the systems used to determine the day time and date, not to mention that hands were read to learn the future. The scientific exposition will show the practical and metaphysical meaning of a hand and reveal the transformation of that image in figurative arts from ancient times to the present.

The art works created by modern artists will be selected based on the results of an open international competition. Both young artists and established masters can take part in it.

At the press conference held on October 7, the author of the project, artist, sculptor, historian, and director of ballet and drama performances Mikhail Shemyakin will invite artists to take part in the “Hand in Art” competition and explain what kind of art works he will wait from its participants. Olga Sazonova, the curator of the “Imaginary Museum of Mikhail Shemyakin” project, the Director General of the Center of Mikhail Shemyakin, Candidate of Sciences in Art Criticism, will tell about the goal of the project in Satka, about its exhibitory and scientific components. Yekaterina Topler, the manager of the PR service at the Center of Mikhail Shemyakin, will specify the rules of the “Hand in Art” competition and some details for submission of applications.

The competition will last until November 1. Please, send applications to: art@mihfond.ru.
