  • “SATKA: THE MOUNTAIN HEART OF EURASIA”

The exhibition of paintings created by Chelyabinsk artists, which is called “Satka: the Mountain Heart of Eurasia”, opened on February 20 in the Magnezit Palace of Culture.

Initially, the exposition was located in the building of the Satka Mining and Ceramic College named after A.K. Savin, where the II Scientific and Practical Local Lore Conference “The Mountain Heart of Eurasia” was held in early February. The paintings represented Zyuratkul, Porogi and other environs of Satkinsky District, which were depicted by Chelyabinsk artists, became perfect illustrations for the event.

Today everyone can see the picturesque canvases. In the exhibition space of the Palace of Culture, there are presented 46 works by seven artists. The painters were inspired by the beautiful nature of Ural. The “oldest” painting, “On Lake Zyuratkul”, was painted by Aleksandr Kozlov in 1963.

It is interesting how the same place is perceived differently by artists. For example, Zyuratkul by Aleksandr Sukhanov is harsh, while Aleksandr Ivanov sees it as a mystical place where one can find a snowman. In addition to the nature surrounding our district, at the exhibition, there are presented watercolor sketches of Satka streets made by Vasiliy Gorelov in 1975.

“We have long dreamed of organizing this exhibition and we are glad that the dream has finally come true. Over the years of existence of our gallery, a large collection of paintings depicting Satka and its surroundings has been gathered. It has also paintings created by Vladimir Bubnov. It turns out that 30 years ago he came to Satka at the invitation of Lyubov Stepanovna Yezhova (at the time, Head of the District Administration Culture Department) to capture the town and nature on canvas. Today you can see the paintings,” Nadezhda Pitakhina (Chelyabinsk), Art Director of the Gallery of Ural artists “Potoki”, says. “This exhibition could be conditionally called a collection of impressions. Once your native places inspired artists to create. Today these paintings will inspire you.”

Together with Nadezhda Pitakhina, artists Aleksandr Ivanov and Konstantin Gorbunov came to the opening of the exposition. They were glad to answer the questions of the guests and shared with them the stories of their works.

By the way, the painters held a master class for pupils of children's art schools of the district on the same day. Under the guidance of Konstantin Gorbunov, the children painted a portrait, and Aleksandr Ivanov showed how to work on a landscape sketch.

“I was a model, so I listened to the master's advice and watched how he was creating his work. And at the very end of the master class I started to draw a portrait, but did not have time to finish it, I will do it at home,” Valeria Galeyeva, a student of the Children’s School of Arts No. 1 named After Yu.A. Rozum, shared her impression.

“When I have the opportunity to learn from professional artists, I do it with pleasure. Today I learned an interesting technique of creating a portrait: Drybrush and Charcoal. Both the master and I liked the result. Thanks to the organizers for the class,” Sofia Ermolayeva, a student of the art department of the Children’s School of Arts No. 1 named after Yu.A. Rozum, added.

“I also took my first creative steps in Satka. Today I am happy to share my personal experience with young artists. I am doubly pleased that my works are presented at the exhibition “Satka: the Mountain Heart of Eurasia”. I am grateful to my teachers and the organizers of the exposition,” Aleksandr Ivanov, a graduate of the Children’s School of Arts No. 1, said.
