  • SATKA SCHOOLCHILDREN HAD “HOLIDAYS WITH MODERN ART”

03.11–03.11

Satka permanent residence of the Ural Industrial Biennale conducted master classes “Holidays with Modern Art: Laboratory for Children and Adults”

During these days, four master classes were conducted, with about 35 people participating in every master class. In the first master class, children were offered to create a Japanese rice-paper lantern decorated with applique work a la Henri Matisse. The second master class implied creating “silhouettes”: first, children were offered to make photos in unusual poses, then the photos were projected on paper. Every young artist outlines the resulting silhouette with a black marker pen, and the coloured it the way he liked – either with patterns or just colour fill.

The third master class caused quite a stir, that is why the event providers conducted two lessons at once – there were too many willing guests! The lesson was devoted to Pablo Picasso, the cubism originator. At first, children cut off certain images of face elements from cardboard: eyes, lips, ears. After that, they fastened the  pieces to the main form. The resulting “portraits” really looked like paintings of the great Spanish artist.

The fourth master class was devoted to pop art and modern fashion: beginning “designers” got an opportunity to ornament white T-shirts to their liking – either using stencil plates or giving loose to their fantasy.

We hope that the master classes were useful not only for children, but also for their parents, who observed attentively the creative process!
