  • THE NINTH WAVE IN SATKA

16.05–18.07

On 18 May 2014, the International Museum Day, Masterpieces from the Collection of the Russian Museum exhibition was opened in Satka (Chelyabinsk Region). This time, one of the most famous works of Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky The Ninth Wave is brought to Satka. The exhibition was arranged with support of the governor of Chelyabinsk Region to promote cooperation between Magnezit Group, Sobranie Cultural Initiative Supporting & Preservation Fund and the State Russian Museum.

The exposition will last until 20 July. The masterpiece of the world famous marine painter is exhibited in Magnezit Community Centre, where all required conditions have been provided under the supervision of the employees of the Russian Museum, including installation of the respective climate control equipment. The display of one work is already a traditional form which allows not only to demonstrate unquestioned masterpieces to the public but also to use non-museum space giving access for the people of small towns to the best works of the world art.

The Russian Museum and Magnezit Group have already had such experience. Last year, an exhibition of another famous work of the Russian classical painting was held in Satka with enormous success. More than 80 thousand people could see Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks to Sultan Mehmed IV of the Ottoman Empire by Ilya Repin. The further plans of the Russian Museum include opening of a fully functional branch in Satka and handover of some works from the museum storage for exhibiting.

The exhibition has been organized with support of the governor of Chelyabinsk region, Magnezit Group, Sobranie Fund and the State Russian Museum.
